Have you ever shared your dreams and heard people say that dreams don’t come true? Well for me, I’ve dreamed of visiting Europe and I have been given the opportunity to realize those dreams.
My name is Kailyn R. Harris, and I have been selected to be a Student Ambassador with People to People. This group was founded over fifty years ago by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who had the vision of promoting world peace and cultural understanding by giving students like me the opportunity to travel abroad to various countries to learn more about other cultures and represent the United States on a more personable level. Now, I have the chance to travel and study in Ireland, Whales, England, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands in the summer of 2012. The life skills I will acquire from this awesome privilege will be essential as I prepare for college, work, internships, and opportunities. Going to Europe will give me amazing adventures, while submerging me into these vastly different cultures.
But first Who am I? I am the youngest of six children; I live with my mom and sister. I love music and play both piano and guitar. I also enjoy art in the form of painting and sketching. I enjoy learning and have managed to maintain a 4.0 GPA. Academic success is currently one of my major goals, but I'm also curious of what paths will lead me to those successes not just in academic but in my life. I am homeschooled; I consider this an advantage because I can do independent work and excel at fast pace. This semester, I’m enrolled at Joliet Junior College earning dual credit until I officially graduate from high school in 2013. Taking this trip will give me a great advantage and will change my perspective. Therefore, I ask that you’ll join me step by step as I embark on this journey for a bright and successful future.
